Is it possible to heat a house with only one hot air register? - air registers

We have a contract at home forced-air heat exchanger, but only under a very large living and dining room. Duct system is only up the stairs to return. The stove is new. But I've never seen such a thing and makes me want to step back from the house. This type of Comon Sytem my current house has a boiler. To warm up the ladder under the stairs is very hot.
